Professor Linda Theron's R-NEET study follows South African and Nigerian youth not in employment, education, or training to examine how supports affect mental health. Findings indicate mental well-being among NEETs depends less on individual grit and more on multisystemic supports, including family, peers, services, spaces, and opportunities, highlighting the need for structural, community, and policy interventions.
