Nearly 1.5 million Muslims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, undeterred by last year’s deadly stampede. Pilgrims are circling the Kaaba in Makkah’s air-conditioned Grand Mosque amid 40°C heat, with extensive crowd controls, safety measures and services in place. Iran will not participate this year after failed security talks with Riyadh.
