Iceland’s president appointed Kristrun Frostadottir, leader of the Social Democratic Alliance, as the new prime minister. Her party won the most seats in the November 30 election, and her coalition includes the centrist People’s Party and the left-leaning, pro-European Reform Party. Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, leader of the Reform Party, was named foreign minister. This is the first time Iceland will have a government led by women, with both a female prime minister and female president, Halla Tomasdottir. The leaders hugged after signing the government agreement.
