President-elect Donald Trump joked about Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state while mocking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trump promised lower taxes for Canadians and suggested hockey legend Wayne Gretzky should lead the country. On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I just met Wayne Gretzky, ‘The Great One’ in hockey. I told him, ‘Wayne, why not run for Prime Minister of Canada, which might soon be called Governor of Canada? You’d win easily without even campaigning.’”
