The government will launch a new round of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the steel sector, called 'PLI Scheme 1.1,' on Monday. Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will officially announce it and invite applications. The scheme aims to boost domestic production of specialty steel, reduce imports, and attract investments. The earlier PLI scheme brought in Rs 27,106 crore in investments, creating 14,760 jobs and targeting 7.90 million tonnes of specialty steel production. This round continues efforts to support the steel industry.
