MobiKwik Co-Founder Upasana Taku called the introduction of a Merchant Discount Rate for large-value UPI transactions a very positive step that will help make the payments ecosystem sustainable. She said small-value person-to-person and everyday transactions remain free, while select merchant payments above Rs 2,000 will incur a 0.4% MDR from October 15, 2026, easing infrastructure costs for banks and payments firms.
