The Confederation of Indian Industry welcomed the GST Council's October decisions to decriminalise certain offences, raise the prosecution threshold from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore, narrow specified offences, and rationalise imprisonment and arrest provisions. CII said these reforms promote trust-based governance, benefit MSMEs and first-generation entrepreneurs, and require legislative amendments and consistent implementation.
