Lalit Modi recalled that the Walt Disney Company declined to finance Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan after executives failed to connect with the filmmaker during a meeting in India. Modi had urged Disney to co produce and finance the series, but they declined. Despite this, Ramayan became a landmark Indian television mythological series, gaining renewed popularity during its 2020 Doordarshan rerun.
