University of Illinois Extension is hosting a Pumpkin Smash Nov. 1 at Rader Family Farm in Normal for residents to drop off or smash pumpkins for composting. Collected pumpkins, free of noncompostables, will be composted at ISU Farm with yard and animal waste, reducing landfill methane, protecting wildlife, and creating saleable compost.
