Africa’s lithium production jumped 44% in 2025, reaching 14% of global output—a 26-fold rise from 2020. Zimbabwe and Mali are already producing, while projects in the DRC, Ghana, Nigeria, Namibia and Côte d’Ivoire are expanding the pipeline. The IEA says lithium demand could more than triple by 2040, increasing its importance for EV batteries and energy storage.
