Vithya Ramraj, the daughter of a truck driver from Coimbatore, has broken PT Usha’s 42-year-old national record in the women’s 400m hurdles. She clocked 54.75 seconds at the 2026 Asian Games, winning bronze and beating Usha’s 1984 mark of 55.42 seconds. Vithya had previously matched the record in 2023 and trained independently with support from her twin sister.
