Newly crowned World Chess Champion D. Gukesh was honoured at a grand event organized by the Tamil Nadu government, where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin awarded him a ₹5 crore cheque on Tuesday. The event, called ‘18th @ 18’, celebrated Gukesh becoming the 18th World Champion at the age of 18.
In his speech, the chief minister encouraged young people to draw inspiration from Gukesh’s journey. He highlighted that Gukesh went from starting chess at the age of seven to becoming World Champion in just 11 years.
