Why Keralam has launched India's first ecosystem Red List assessment

Kerala State Biodiversity Board launched India's first Red List Assessment of Ecosystems to shift conservation from species-level protection to landscape-scale management. The year-long study, led by Kerala Forest Research Institute and MES Asmabi College, evaluates collapse risks across Kerala’s ecosystems, producing risk registers, an ecosystem typology atlas, and restoration priority maps to guide local planning and nature-based climate adaptation.
