Belief in supernatural beings arises from innate fears of death, the search for meaning, and pattern-seeking. Religions institutionalize these beliefs, offering comfort yet enabling authority, exploitation, and resistance to evidence. Societal security, education, and science reduce dependence on faith. We must demand accountability, protect vulnerable people, and allow critical inquiry to distinguish sincere comfort from unsupported claims.
