After seeing two employees commute on electric scooters in freezing weather, Ma Yanli, owner of a beef hotpot chain in Jiaozuo, Henan, gifted each of them a brand-new BMW worth about 300,000 yuan (≈Rs 43 lakh). The cars, bought outright and registered to the workers without conditions, were intended to reward performance and improve employee well-being.
