Anduri Utsav, or the Butter Festival, is celebrated in Raithal, Uttarkashi, at Dayara Bugyal when villagers bring cattle home after summer grazing. Held around Bhadrapad Sankranti, this August 15 to 18 celebration features rituals, prayers to Lord Krishna and Bugyal Mata, folk music and Dahi-handi, and culminates in playful smearing and splashing of butter and buttermilk. The event now attracts tourists and trekkers.
