A Rockefeller University study found that three minutes of maximal sprinting produced rapid, large shifts in blood proteins and metabolites, unlike much smaller immediate changes after prolonged moderate exercise. Sprinting altered about 25% of measured proteins and over 200 metabolites, and blood collected post-sprint modified gene activity in fat cells, suggesting exercise intensity drives distinct systemic molecular signals.
