A 12-week randomized trial of 120 overweight or obese young adults found that high-intensity interval training improved cognitive processing speed, yielding faster reaction times on n-back memory tasks without changing accuracy. HIIT also reduced weight and BMI and increased VO2 max. Unequal group sizes and baseline differences limit generalizability, and larger, more diverse trials are needed before broad conclusions.
