This Shiny Beetle Looks Harmless, But It Could Spell Trouble for Your Favourite Garden Plants

A North Pennine gardener reports increased insect diversity and a worrying arrival: the non-native rosemary beetle (Chrysolina americana). Native to the Mediterranean, it feeds on Lamiaceae like rosemary, lavender, sage and thyme, defoliating plants. First recorded outdoors in Britain in 1994, its range is expanding with warming climates; gardeners are advised to hand-pick and report sightings.
