Scientists Discover New Cause of Aging Muscle Weakness

Researchers at the University of Missouri found that declining nerve-muscle communication contributes to age-related muscle weakness (sarcopenia), linked to reduced NaV1.4 protein. In animal models, partially inhibiting ClC-1 restored muscle responsiveness to nerve signals and improved strength. Collaborations with NMD Pharma and international partners suggest this reversible failure point could lead to therapies, with ignaseclant as a potential candidate for clinical testing in older adults.
