Madhya Pradesh traders observed a ‘No UPI Day’ on September 23, covering QR codes and payment soundboxes with black cloth to protest the upcoming Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on certain UPI payments. From October 15, a 0.4% charge will apply to P2M UPI transactions above ₹2,000, while small vendors and person-to-person payments remain exempt. Traders say the move could increase business costs and prices.
