Samajwadi Party nominated Dhanraj Nathwani, a Reliance group president and Gujarat Cricket Association chief, for a Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh, extending a cross-party family political presence after his father Parimal Nathwani was backed by the NDA in June. With October 16 Rajya Sabha polls for ten UP seats, the BJP-led alliance is expected to win eight and SP two; Dhanraj filed nomination in Lucknow.
