The Dashanan Temple in Kanpur opens only on Vijayadashami, when devotees ceremonially bathe and worship Ravana as a learned devotee of Shiva, instead of burning his effigy. The annual ritual attracts worshippers offering prayers, flowers and lamps. A similar tradition exists in Ravana village, Vidisha, where a reclining 12-foot idol is revered during Dussehra.
