Meet Brazil’s New Glass Frog: A Tiny Species Found in the Cerrado

Brazilian researchers described a new glass frog, Vitreorana micaelae, discovered in Luziânia, Goiás, within the Cerrado. Using morphology, bioacoustics, genetics and fieldwork, they identified unique traits and named it the 11th species in its genus and the second endemic to the Cerrado. The tiny, elusive frog breeds on high leaves and faces threats from climate change, deforestation and river damming.
