Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Mahalaya greetings, invoking Maa Durga’s blessings for happiness, compassion, hope, peace and prosperity. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari also conveyed similar wishes. Devotees performed rituals and took holy dips across West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, including Siliguri, Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli and Rameswaram, on the start of Pitru Paksha.
