Mamata Banerjee’s faction has backed Congress candidate Milan Pradhan in the Nandigram bypoll after its nominee Sanchita Pradhan De withdrew from the race. The move comes amidst an ongoing dispute over the Trinamool Congress’ name and symbol. Pradhan was later arrested in connection with older cases linked to the 2007 Nandigram protests. The bypoll is scheduled for October 6.
