A GEER Foundation study published in the Journal of Threatened Taxa found Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary in Jamnagar, Gujarat, offers highly suitable breeding habitat for the Black-necked Stork. Between July 2024 and March 2025 researchers documented four active nests on Prosopis juliflora, all producing eight fledglings, a 100% fledging success, attributed to shallow water, abundant prey, suitable nesting sites and low human disturbance.
