Indonesia releases 8 orangutans rescued from fires to protected forest

Indonesian authorities and YIARI released eight orangutans rescued from recent Borneo fires into Batu Nyambu Protected Forest in West Kalimantan. The group included three mother-and-infant pairs and two adolescent males; relocations aim to secure food, water and habitat connectivity. Rescuers said habitat threats from fires and land clearing make interventions necessary for orangutan survival.
