A UNESCO report finds India has largely closed gender gaps in education overall but shows a sharp rural-urban divide: only 59 girls complete upper-secondary school for every 100 boys in rural areas, compared with parity in urban areas. The report calls for coordinated measures addressing costs, school meals, sanitation, safety and second-chance pathways to improve girls' completion.
