India has launched a national Red List assessment of 1,211 bird species under the IUCN framework; preliminary reviews for over 100 species, including the Great Indian Bustard (proposed critically endangered) and the Indian Roller (proposed vulnerable), are complete. The effort aims to finish the bird assessment by late next year as part of the national 2025 to 2030 biodiversity roadmap.
