India backed a UN General Assembly resolution urging an end to the US economic embargo on Cuba, saying the sanctions block Cuban development and access to essential services. The measure passed 130 in favor, 17 against and 25 abstaining. India's UN counsellor Soumya Nair cited harm to sovereignty, medicine shortages and falling food production.
