Nüshu is a generations-old syllabic script developed by women in Jiangyong County, Hunan, that enabled private expression and communal bonds when formal education excluded many women. Nearly lost, the slender, vertical script has gained renewed attention as researchers, artists and younger women study and revive it, preserving a unique chapter of female cultural history.
