IISER-Bhopal team unravel genetic secrets of peacock

Researchers at IISER Bhopal assembled a high-quality genome of peafowl to investigate genetic differences between the Blue (Indian) and Green peafowl. They found adaptive evolution in genes for nervous system development, immunity, and muscle, with the Blue peafowl showing greater genomic divergence, expanded gene families, and signatures that may explain its larger, more resilient populations.
