Nineteen-year-old Kartik Sahani of Mau, Uttar Pradesh, spent three to four hours daily over 22 days cleaning the polluted Tamsa River that irrigates his family’s farmland. He removed more than 1,000 kg of accumulated waste. After restoring the river stretch, Sahani has expanded his efforts by taking on a neighbourhood pond as his next cleanup target.
