Can Mindfulness Help Prevent Heart Disease?

A review of 18 randomized trials finds that structured psychological programs, including mindfulness, gratitude and optimism techniques, are associated with short-term improvements in blood pressure, inflammation and vascular function. Daily practice with weekly support over eight to twelve weeks showed the most consistent effects, though programs vary and do not replace standard medical treatment for heart disease.
