Union minister Nitin Gadkari said India’s automotive industry can become the world’s largest, currently ranking third after the US and China. Speaking at the inaugural HT Auto Leaderboard Awards 2026, he highlighted the sector’s contribution of over ₹22.75 lakh crore to the economy and noted discussions on India’s readiness to become an auto powerhouse, and future mobility fuels including ethanol and EVs.
