Research shows wild blacktip sharks in southeastern Florida can detect low-frequency underwater sounds from at least 62 metres, with some responses near 74 metres. Using an underwater speaker and drone tracking, scientists observed sharks not only detect sounds but orient toward their source, then rapidly turn and flee, suggesting directional hearing aids their sensing in natural environments.
