Beyond Relief: Himachal Seeks ₹1,000 Crore A Year For Disaster Prevention

Himachal Pradesh Minister Jagat Singh Negi urged increased central funding for disaster mitigation, arguing relief after events cannot address recurring risks from landslides, floods and glacial lake outbursts. The state seeks about Rs 3,200 crore for monsoon losses and requests at least Rs 1,000 crore annually for mitigation. Negi called for preventive investment, local stakeholder engagement and targeted measures in Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
