The Wildlife Institute of India will conduct India's first nationwide study covering all four bear species to assess populations, distribution, and temporal changes. The project aims to identify areas where bears have declined and investigate habitat alteration, human activity and other factors. Results should inform conservation planning and help mitigate escalating human-bear conflicts, especially in Uttarakhand.
