Researchers found Nubian giraffes in South Sudan retain high genetic diversity and connectivity with neighboring populations despite decades of conflict. DNA from 30 individuals in Boma and Badingilo parks showed relatively low inbreeding, indicating the region is a genetic stronghold. Historical gene flow across the White Nile was also evident, suggesting conservation efforts and habitat stability support the subspecies' resilience.
