Catholics gathered Oct. 3 at the National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi in San Francisco to mark the Transitus on the 800th anniversary of St. Francis' death. Rector Father Bobby Barbato reflected on Francis' conversion and Gospel witness. Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone blessed the city; a procession, veneration at a Porziuncola replica, and the mission's 250th anniversary were observed.
