A large Japanese survey of 1,594 children aged 6 to 18 compared 797 with ADHD to 797 controls and found substantially higher depression, anxiety, irritability, bullying victimization, and academic difficulties among those with ADHD. Girls exhibited larger emotional and social differences than boys. Inattention related most to poor academics, while hyperactivity/impulsivity correlated with internalizing symptoms; causation is not established.
