Researchers using ESA's Mars Express and a weather model found that the Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud likely forms via homogeneous ice nucleation, where water vapor freezes directly into ice without dust. Strong winds lift moist air rapidly over Arsia Mons, cooling it and producing long seasonal clouds in Mars's southern hemisphere during spring and summer.
