Police in Baramulla seized 6.8 kilograms of banned polythene at Wagoora Market during an enforcement drive, imposing fines totaling ₹5,500, including ₹200 under COTPA. Authorities said such operations aim to curb plastic pollution, prevent clogged drains and health risks from improper disposal or burning, and promote eco-friendly alternatives like cloth, jute, canvas, paper or certified compostable and reusable bags across the district.
