A historic Chinar tree in Chattergam, Budgam, is around 650 years old and has been described by the Jammu and Kashmir government as the oldest Chinar in Asia. While some old branches have fallen naturally, the remaining tree is still green. Authorities have fenced its root zone and are taking measures to protect and replenish Kashmir’s Chinar population.
